Blunders that Could Cause a Car Accident

By David Halbert

Most accidents occur as result of some mistake or negligence on the part of the driver. Sometimes even very trivial mistakes can lead to serious car accidents. The faults which lead to accidents are not pertaining to bad driving alone; in fact, they are mostly careless mistakes.

However, whatever kind of mistake you may make while driving; it can lead to serious accidents. You may have to face serious physical injuries or financial losses. In spite of knowing the consequence of mistakes while driving, there are innumerable accidents everyday. Many people die, while many undergo serious injuries of monetary loss.

The key reason of car accidents is inattention or overconfidence on the part of the driver. He or she believes that doing something else when driving or taking their eyes off from the road for a small period of time is not a big issue. What they should realize is that, it is this millionth of a second in which all accidents occur.

For example, most people change CDs while driving. While they use the CD play to insert or eject the CD, they have to shift their attention from the road to the CD player. Although this process may take as little as 3-4 seconds, but this little time is enough to lead you to a car accident. You never know that the moment you take your eyes off the road, someone from the side or the back may bump into your car, or you may hit something unexpected on the road. It may be counted as a simple mistake but you do not know how grave it may turn out to be for you.

In the same way, one might attend a call on the cell phone when driving and end up in an accident. As a matter of fact, use of cell phones or other gadgets like laptops etc when driving has become a key cause of road accidents. For this cause, a lot of countries have banned using cell phones when driving. Instead of hand held devices, the use of headphones or wireless devices are being advised in order to minimize the likelihood of car accidents. Though, using a cell phone when you drive is not something incorrect in itself, however as it diverts your attention from driving, this practice can lead you to grave problems.

One more simple mistake that may lead to a car accident is having a look at something on the road or close by. A lot of people are inquisitive to watch something interesting happening on the road. They may knock another car, or somebody may knock them whilst they take their eyes off the road to have a look at something. Even though it may seem to be a slight distraction, yet it is adequate enough to lead you to a car accident.

Further, a dreadful mistake that might seem insignificant is to drink alcohol when driving or before driving. One gets lethargic, cannot focus on the road and judge distances if he or she is drunk.

All these small mistakes can lead you to grave car accidents. You have to keep in mind that life is valuable and you cannot put it in danger as you do not get to have another one ever again.
