Each of the many fragrances out there today have their own unique scent. Some are very rich and bold while others are subtle or fruity.
What is it that persuades a consumer to choose a certain fragrance over another? Each scent will appeal to a person in its own way and with designers rangin from Chanel to Dora the Explorer to Brittany Spears, how do you choose?
Along with the large selection and variety of fragrances, the cost varies just as much. Everything from the very high end to the low end and it because of this I believe the selection is narrowed down a bit.
As the average middleclass American comprises the majority of the selections by designers like Ralph Lauren and Nautica ranging fom $10 to $100 dollars there is an extreme. The Imperial Majesty which list's at near $215,000 per bottle I am sure is nice, only a few can afford. Scents by Chanel and Versace are near the mid-range of cost and are equally as nice.
Now that the selection has been narrowed down by cost, what is the next factor? The smell itself and how it arouses an inviduals senses is the next factor. Although this may seem simple it is very complex and we still do not know why one scent smells good to one person and terrible to another.
Even though there is no exact science behind why we like what we like there are some trends. these trends differ widely across the spectrum. Cultures and age for example are two different classes but yet each class will have some comparable taste in the selections they choose.
My conclusion to all I have researched besides the cost is this; we prefer what we prefer.
The bottom line is the best way to find your perfect fragrance is to try many samples in your price range and eventually you will find one that you like. After all, there is a huge variety on the market.
